ABS Nautical Systems Captures New Clients
Operators Look To ABS Nautical Systems For IT Support With
Maintenance, Purchasing & Financial Reporting

January 6, 2004

(Houston, TX---) ABS Nautical Systems (NS) has secured IT contracts with leading maritime operators in South America and the U.S., as the demand for integrated fleet management software continues to rise.

Chile’s main supplier of maritime fuel transportation, Sociedad Nacional de Oleoductos Ltda or SONACOL has joined the ranks of ABS NS software users announcing it will convert all existing fleet management IT systems to ABS NS integrated suite of modules.

ABS NS will also supply New York-based oil barge company Bouchard Transportation with its Maintenance & Repair, Purchasing & Inventory and Financial Reporting modules for two offices and up to 60 assets. Bouchard’s fleet contains some 31 barges and 17 tugs with its area of operation greatly expanded to include all four coasts of the U.S. and the Great Lakes.

Another New York-based operator, McAllister Brothers, which operates 70 tugs and 12 barges operating along the east coast between Maine and Puerto Rico has expanded its three year use of ABS NS software by adding on the same modules to manage all of its offices and marine assets.

According to ABS Nautical Systems' Senior Business Development Manager Joe Woods the Maintenance & Repair module records all maintenance work performed on a vessel by the crew or outside contractors. It provides a complete, planned machinery and vessel compartment maintenance history. It is also used to order services within the company. The Purchasing & Inventory Control module provides a two-step process for ordering materials & supplies. Requisitions are issued to record material orders by a vessel and Purchase Orders are used to place material orders with vendors. Inventory Control tracks equipment parts and consumable items at various sites, including onboard each vessel within a fleet and at shore side facilities.

He further explains that all clients will be powering the software with the Replication Manager module which provides the capability to transfer data between databases at various operational sites including vessels, offices, warehouses, crew agents, suppliers and shipyards. The central database acts as the distribution center for all transactions at all sites that have individual databases.

ABS-NS SafeNet is one of the leading fleet management software packages available to the marine and offshore industries. It offers a fully integrated, modular approach to managing all the principal operational expenses associated with a vessel or offshore rig, ranging from crew payroll to purchasing, to maintenance and repair. SafeNet is currently installed aboard several thousand vessels ranging from tug boats to vlccs.
